Beckton Sewage Treatment Works in East London is the largest sewage treatment works in Europe, serving a population equivalent of 3.7 million across a 300 km² catchment area. As part of Thames Water’s £63 million Beckton STW Extension Project, Satec Service Ltd was appointed by Temcor Conservatek, a global leader in aluminium cover systems, to deliver the installation of odour containment covers across all 16 primary sedimentation tanks.
The project formed a key part of Thames Water’s AMP5 programme, helping to reduce odour emissions while allowing the existing scraper mechanisms to continue operating without interruption.
Satec was responsible for the complete delivery and installation of the odour control cover system, including the fabrication of bespoke stainless steel support structures and the installation of a large-scale aluminium cover system.
Our scope included:
The cover system was designed using aluminium support beams spanning each sedimentation tank, supported by bespoke stainless steel columns rising from the tank floor. More than 10,000 aluminium cover panels were installed across 16 tanks, creating a fully sealed odour containment system while maintaining safe access for inspection and maintenance.
Each completed installation underwent smoke testing to verify the integrity of the seals before commissioning.
Satec Service Ltd provides specialist fabrication, mechanical installation, and large-scale infrastructure solutions for the water and wastewater industry, delivering complex engineering projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
